As a research-based biopharmaceutical company, we are revolutionizing healthcare by bringing medicines to patients in the areas of HIV, AIDS, liver diseases, hematology and oncology, and inflammation and respiratory diseases. We are actively seeking candidates for the inaugural class of our new Postdoctoral Scholar Program in Gilead Research. This is an opportunity to conduct cutting-edge independent research at a highly innovative company. We welcome all qualified candidates to apply!

This postdoctoral scientist position is within an established group focused on fibrotic, metabolic and inflammatory diseases and provides an exciting opportunity to have high-impact on expanding our understanding of hepatic stellate cell biology and the crosstalk between different cell types involved in the pathogenesis of NASH and liver fibrosis, an area of unmet medical need with no approved therapy till date. A successful candidate will combine single-cell RNAseq and bioinformatics approaches with molecular characterization of hepatic stellate cell populations in vivo and in vitro that will serve to support our internal research efforts to identify new anti-fibrotic therapeutics as well as deepen our understanding of the mechanism of action and combination potential of existing pipeline agents in clinical development for NASH and advanced fibrosis. The selected candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment at Gilead through a 2-year term, with an option to extend an additional third year, with an emphasis on high impact publications.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills
  • PhD in the fields of biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and immunology with a record of independent high-impact research as evidenced by publications and presentations at conferences are encouraged to apply.

  • Excellent technical skills in the area of cell and molecular biology including culture of cell lines and primary cells, methods to evaluate cell signaling (western blot, immunoprecipitation, seahorse), immunoassays (i.e. ELISA), gene expression analysis (i.e. RT-PCR, Nanostring, RNAseq) is required. Experience with tissue-specific rodent models, single cell RNAseq, and/or flow cytometry is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills are required, including proficiency with basic data analysis programs (Excel, GraphPad Prism) and application of statistics is preferred.
  • Candidate must be able to manage multiple projects at any given time, and work fairly independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills and strong organizational and planning skills are required.
