Description

Position Summary

This Instructor position will focus primarily on management of off-cycle asynchronous courses for the online Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology program.

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology’s Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology Program follows a lecture-capture, distributed learning model. Under this framework, the primary role of the Instructor is to oversee selected off-cycle asynchronous course sections and serve as the lead instructor for selected synchronous courses in the MS program as needed. The MS Program and faculty provide students updated synchronous courses on a yearly basis, and this Instructor will be responsible for managing selected off-cycle asynchronous course sections using material provided by the lead instructors based on student demand. A complete list of courses provided by the MS Program can be found at (https://www.online.colostate.edu/degrees/microbiology/). The Instructor will collaborate with other lead faculty before the courses begin by discussing course content, learning objectives, student participation, assignments, and grading metrics to maintain course quality/rigor. This collaboration and communication between lead faculty and the Instructor is ongoing throughout the semester. During the asynchronous courses, the Instructor will have primary responsibility for maintaining course quality/rigor.

The Instructor will oversee up to 50 online students in off-cycle course sections as needed based on class size and grading intensity/technology, and they will serve as the primary point of communication for asynchronous students in their courses, grade assignments, hold virtual “office” hours, and recommend final grades. The Instructor will help ensure that each student keeps pace with the course and provide a high level of student outreach, including having availability to frequently connect with students. The Instructor is expected to provide substantial and specific student feedback and offer a quick turnaround on grades. For our online students, this is a significant role, as it connects them to the program during a time when they might otherwise feel disconnected. The Instructor is also expected to reflect department and institutional values, as well as foster CSU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Instructor will also serve in a logistical and advising role for the MS Program in close collaboration with the Program Director. In this role, the Instructor will work closely with the Program Director to monitor student progress through the program, perform student advising, and collaborate on student recruitment and program assessment.
