The Opportunity
Reporting to the Research Director, the Principal Scientist, Diagnostics will:
- Lead diagnostic R&D programs to develop in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products that are clinically impactful, commercially viable, and align with broader company strategy and objectives.
- Design, execute, manage, analyse, and report on internal and external research projects, particularly focused on exosome biomarker discovery, assay development, and testing.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality technical documentation, including research proposals, project plans, technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and professional presentations.
- Ensure full compliance with quality, regulatory, and safety standards, and contribute to the drafting and maintenance of SOPs, design controls, and audit-ready records.
- Support the company’s intellectual property strategy by identifying new technologies and product opportunities, securing IP through accurate record-keeping, and contributing to patent filings and renewals.
- Supervise, train, and manage junior scientists and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing research environment.
Requirements
The Requirements
Applicants whose skills, experience, and research background closely align with the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
- PhD in Cell Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Endocrinology, or similar relevant field. A PhD in Oncology (cancer biology or diagnostics) is highly desirable.
- Deep expertise in end-to-end clinical assay development, including the design, optimisation, and validation of analytical methods for IVD Multivariate Index Assays (IVDMIAs or Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs).
- 7+ years of postdoctoral laboratory research experience, ideally within a biotech/diagnostics/medtech industry setting, including small group leadership.
- A strong understanding of laboratory quality and regulatory standards relevant to IVD development lifecycle, including ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820, and IVDR 2017/246.
- Deep knowledge of extracellular vesicle biomarker discovery and hands-on experience in proteomics, glycomics, and genomics technologies demonstrated by patents or high-quality publications.
- Strong experience in assay development relating to oncology, neurology, or cardiology.
