Immediate post-doctoral position available in the laboratory of J. Carter Ralphe, MD in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our research focuses on understanding the biology of inherited forms of cardiomyopathy with an emphasis on defining the primary contractile abnormality and how this leads to the hypertrophic phenotype and heart failure. We are particularly interested in how the immature heart responds to activation of hypertrophic and metabolic signaling pathways in response to contractile dysfunction.  We employ novel technologies including  human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes, gene editing, engineered cardiac tissue constructs, and high throughput ‘omics (genome and proteome) to study cardiac contractile function and intracellular signaling.  The lab is part of the UW  Cardiovascular Research Center located in the Wisconsin Institute for Medical Research on the biomedical campus of the University of Wisconsin.

Applicants must have a PhD or MD/PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, integrated physiology or related field. Experience in molecular biology techniques including DNA, RNA, and protein analysis/bioinformatics, tissue culture, and experience working with IPS cells preferred.  A background in muscle physiology is a plus.  Individual must be able to work independently and supervise research assistants and graduate students. Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English is required.
